Tanzania Steering Team Chairperson

Mary Schott, Founder and Project Director, Trees for Tanzania, Attica, IN

Skills Emphasis:  Scientific, Business

Location:  USA

Mary Schott currently serves as Founder and Project Director for Trees for Tanzania for a broad range of missions initiative for Tanzania.   Having traveled at the age of 9 with her father, Art Clawson, who many would say "had the skill set of an engineer and the heart of a missionary" and who had performed work in Zaire and in Tanzania, Mary has been raised in an environment that allowed her to develop a heart of a missionary with more of a blend toward the horticultural science and engineering area rather than the mechanical as Art had focused.  Mary's unique blend of quanitative and hands on approaches embodied throughout the cross-cultural, horticultural scientific knowlege, project management, and business experience possessed, enables Mary to contribute across the full spectrum of GRC’s project base.

Mary's Background:

  • 10 years experience in plantation forestry.
  • Mary is a founding partner of Maximum Yield Associates, LLC, a company that prospects globally for highly productive sites for intensive tree plantation and tree crop establishment and management.
  • B.Sc. in Horticulture from Purdue University
  • Mary is currently enrolled in the Graduate School at Purdue University.
  • For her master’s research she is developing propagation protocols for Pterocarpus angolensis, an endangered indigenous tree species of Tanzania.
